Yes, the Chicago Bulls made some big moves during the trade deadline by adding two All-Stars, but Lonzo Ball is the only player who can save them.
The Bulls’ first post-trade game against the San Antonio Spurs only showcased one thing: big issues on defense. That’s where Zo would come in.
It should have been an easy win for the Bulls to kick off the Nikola Vucevic-era, considering the Spurs had just bought out LeMarcus Aldridge.
Instead, the Bulls found themselves in a 36-point deficit that eventually ended in a 120-104 defeat.
While Daniel Theis and Vucevic add depth and skill to the interior defense, Zo would complete the Bulls with his two-way playmaking and defensive skills.
Zo is a true pass-first point guard who can creatively and accurately get the ball to Zach LaVine or Vucevic to enhance scoring while providing a defensive presence.
Coby White is inconsistent and when it comes to his game, his defensive skills are just not there.
Defense is the best skill Zo has to offer on and off the ball.
His strong basketball IQ positions him well when it comes to help defense and getting the ball in transition. He’s averaging 1.3 steals this season and 0.6 blocks per game which is impressive.
Zo has also taken on the toughest defensive assignments in the league overall:
He is shooting a career-high 38.5% from 3, improving his presence on both ends of the court.
If Zo ends up at the Bulls, it will make their backcourt one of the best in the league on paper.
